ERP-II Making ERP Deliver On Its Promise to the Enterprise
Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) implementations have swept through the business sector since the early 1990s, helping corporations to drive down costs and operate more efficiently. ERP has allowed department heads to view their data more easily and manage it more effectively. It also has streamlined a host of manufacturing and distribution processes, ranging from product development to order processing to the cataloguing of goods.

Still, conventional ERP has fallen short in a few areas that are critical to todays business needs. First, its scope is limited. ERP helps automate individual departments, but it hasnt extended its back-office benefits into the front-office to help businesses manage people, workloads and supply-chain issues. Second, it hasnt delivered consistent control of all the processes of the business. Competitive pressures and globalization have made it clear that the business world is still in need of more effective, total enterprise solutions.

This White Paper will provide an essential understanding of how traditional ERP implementations have set the groundwork within organizations to start capturing all information onto one true enterprise system. It will outline a clear vision of how the next generation of ERP systems will include the bulk of the functionality that traditionally has been found outside of the ERP system. Finally, this paper will highlight the benefits that can be associated with such an ERP system, and the efficiencies that can be realized across an organization.
Klogging case study: Blogging in Corporate America.
via Roland Tanglao: Michael Angeles presentation on Lucent Technologies' intranet blogging at a Usability Professionals Association meeting. Download presentation slides with notes, PDF. (5 MB) While he doesn't reveal number of intranet bloggers (my obsession) he describes the range of tools, categories of users, and the nature of blogging. Michael, an experienced blogger in his own right (see IAslash, urlgreyhot) also shows deep understanding of how blogs fit into his enterprise's IT architecture. Creating blogfodder via RSS from corporate databases. Providing tools for search and discovery. Supporting knowledge workers and communities of practice. If you're coming to my BloggerCon Sunday session on workplace blogging, this should be on your reading list.
Do Values Provide Value?
How your team works is just as important as what your team does. Your team's values build metrics and a common focus. Those values may include collaboration, innovation, customer focus or zero-defects. For values to become more than a poster on...
Hospital intranet blogging.
Working notes from D. Keith Robinson's project of moving most of the hospital's intranet into Moveable Type. Useful observations on deployment, template design, new uses (project coordination). "Dont let anyone tell you that you need to spend thousands of dollars to do distributed authorship or content management the right way. Its simply not true." (Staff time excluded, of course.)
PM Tools - Baby Steps
I often think of the very funny movie "What About Bob?", and Bill Murray's portrayal of Bob, a very needy man, when I'm trying to get started on a difficult task.
